Tehran, Iran, Jan. 01 – Iran’s former Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi has been appointed as the Islamic Republic’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, state media reported.

Mohammad-Ali Hosseini succeeded Asefi as Foreign Ministry spokesman in September. At the time, Iran Focus reported that Asefi would take over as the top envoy to Abu Dhabi.

On Sunday, Asefi met hard-line Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to discuss Tehran-Abu Dhabi relations.
