Majlis deputies and the State Security Forces (SSF) are taking tougher measures to deal with women accused of mal-veiling. Majlis deputies reported the adoption of a directive in the Majlis to deal with improper veiling. The daily Ya-Letharat proposed that in addition to tougher action against the manifestation of mal-veiling, women and girls detained on the charge of improper veiling be denied driver license, passports and certificates of background clearance.

After Majlis deputy from Tehran, Fatemeh Arya, said in the Majlis that as the guardian of security in society, the SSF needed a directive to carry out its mandate concerning the veil, the hard-line newspaper Ya-Letharat – the official organ of the Ansar-e Hezbollah – published a directive on Wednesday, July 7, addressed to the SSF commander-in-chief Brig. Gen. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

The directive dealt with how to confront the manifestations of moral corruption and mal-veiling. It also criticized mal-veiling and proposed that vehicles carrying mal-veiling women and those described by the daily as half-naked, promiscuous brides, be impounded for several months. The directive further suggested that passport, driver license and certificate of background clearance not be issued for those women and girls previously arrested on the charge of improper veiling.
