London, 13 Dec - Every month, the women’s rights branch of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) compiles a wide-ranging report on the rights of women under the Iranian Government which often makes for depressing reading.

In November’s edition it was revealed that Iran’s overall ranking in terms of women’s equality- as categorised by the World Economic Forum’s Gender Gap report- has slipped to 140th out 144 countries, placing above of only Chad, Syria, Pakistan and Yemen.

The WEF’s report measures economic participation and political empowerment to find out how equal the sexes are. Iran’s score was 0.583, meaning that women’s rights in Iran are just over half that of a man’s.

London, 3 Oct - When the Iranian Regime banned a female player from their national chess team for what they call “bad hijab”, the last thing they would have expected is that she would have joined the US team instead.

Dorsa Derakhshani refused to wear the traditional headscarf (known as the hijab), which all Iranian women have been forced to wear in public since the Iranian Regime took power in 1979, at a competition in Gibraltar in February and as a result the Iranian Regime dropped her from the team.

On Monday, the semi-official ISNA news agency reported that Derakhshani, who won the titles of Woman Grandmaster and International Master in 2016, has joined the US national chess team instead.

London, 8 Sep - On Wednesday, a day after female lawmakers were permitted to attend the World Cup qualifier against Syria, the website of Iran's main stadium was hacked. This came with a demand that women be allowed to watch football matches.

During Tehran's Azadi stadium last-minute equaliser by the visiting team, at least two female lawmakers were present. This is believed to be the first time Iranian women were allowed to watch a men's match since the 1979 Islamic revolution.

ISNA news agency reported on the next day that the stadium website had been hacked, and a banner appeared for several hours across the front page, saying, “Let Iranian women enter their stadiums”.

Sahar Gholamali, a member of the Iranian Resistance, recounted her life story. It can be read in full on the NCRI Women’s Committee website.

Suppression and oppression has been a part of her life since she was born, literally, as she was born in the notorious Evin Prison in Tehran during the eighties.

Her parents were both arrested for their political and social activities as they were supporters of the opposition Mojahedin (PMOI/MEK). They believed in freedom and opposed the regime that had established a religious dictatorship in the country.

London, 5 Sep - Iran blamed a "technical glitch" for allowing female football fans to buy tickets to watch the men's national team play Syria.

It seemed like the Regime’s sexist ban on women attending football matches when men are playing had been lifted, on Saturday, when the option appeared for women's tickets for Iran’s World Cup qualifier against Syria.
