London, 14 Sep - The Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) said on Thursday that the missile strike they launched at the meeting of a Kurdish independence group in Iraq last week was as a warning to "arrogant foreign powers".

The IRGC fired seven medium-range ballistic missiles at the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran’s (KDPI) headquarters in Koysinjaq, Iraqi Kurdistan, killing at least 11 people and wounding 50 more, in what the Iranian security force called a precision strike.

Iran’s cyber attacks on own citizens

Iran Focus

London, 13 Sep - Cyber security firm Check Point has recently uncovered an extensive attack that has been targeting Iranians citizens and Kurdish residents since 2016.

The hackers are creating malicious applications – an ANF Kurdistan news agency app and a fake version of the messaging app, Vidogram - infected with spyware to collect sensitive data, that unwitting victims download onto their mobile phones.

Information collected includes: contact lists, call records, clipboard content, application list, SMS messages, browser history, bookmarks, geo-location, photos, surrounding voice recordings and more. It is believed that the information will be leveraged at a later point for the hackers to take further action against them.

US Sanctions Weaken Iran and Hezbollah Proxy

Iran Focus

London, 24 August - Iran’s Lebanese proxy group Hezbollah is stronger than ever and has significantly expanded its stockpile of weapons, according to a televised statement by the group’s leader Hassan Nasrallah, as part of a broadcast marking the anniversary of the 2006 war with Israel.

The Centre for Strategic and International Studies reports that Hezbollah’s involvement in the Syrian conflict on behalf of Iran allowed the group to increase its weapons’ holdings as well as improve training and planning.

London, 30 August - According to an internal memo seen by Reuters, all non-essential travel by France’s diplomats and foreign ministry officials to Iran should be postponed indefinitely. The memo cited a plot to bomb a rally held earlier this summer by an exiled Iranian opposition group near Paris, as a sign of Tehran's more aggressive stance towards France. The instructions were also relayed to officials in government departments outside the foreign ministry to be passed on to staff who intended to travel to Iran.

London, 23 August - The son of a founder of Lebanon’s Hezbollah has accused the pro-Iranian militia of running torture and kidnapping operations in Dahya, a suburb or the capital, Beirut.

Claiming that the militia built a number of secret detention centers out of sight of the Lebanese government, Hussein Mazloum, also known as Hajj Wala, says that he was detained in one of these centers for nine months. He alleged that he was subjected to the “worst forms of torture and humiliation” during his time there.
