Iran Fires Two Health Officials for Admissions Over Coronavirus Cover-Up

COVID-19 cover-up

By Jubin Katiraie

Akhevan Akbari, the head of the Medical Sciences University in Ardebil, and Dr. Hassan Adeli, the head of Qom Medical Sciences University, were both forced out of their jobs by the Minister of Health, Saied Namaki after they made comments that contradicted the official version of events.

In Akbari’s case, he supported the head of Ardebil’s Khomeini Hospital, who had said on live TV that the state-announced coronavirus death and infection tolls were only “a portion of the real figures” because the Ministry of Health only counted those who had tested positive, even though many of those infected were not tested.

Akbari was replaced with an Associate Professor, according to the state-run media there.

Adeli, who is located in the epicentre of the disease, told the state-run Fars News Agency that the reason Iran’s first-announced coronavirus cases were in Qom is that the hospitals there went against “Health Ministry protocols” and began testing for the disease.

The former health official implied here that the regime, in an attempt to cover up the outbreak, initially told hospitals not to test for the disease so that deaths could be recorded as a myriad of other things, like lung disease.

Engulfed with the crisis, in order to avoid possible social outrage, mullahs’ have conducted a vast cover-up since the coronavirus outbreak and they cannot even tolerate their own officials.

There are further reports that Adeli tried to stop religious schools in Qom, a holy city that is prominently occupied by clerics, from interfering with medical and hospital affairs.

On Sunday, Iran’s Ministry of Health said that coronavirus had killed 4,474 people in the country and infected 71,686.

Meanwhile, the Iranian opposition, who get their information from hospitals and other informed sources on the ground reported a death toll on 26,200.

The National Council of Resistance of Iran, who have long revealed the regime cover-up of the scope of the outbreak in order to seem more in control of the situation, reported Monday that the death toll had climbed to 27,000.

It is despicable that the regime is hiding the true crisis of coronavirus in Iran, meaning that more people became sick initially and that more will get sick as time passes. The regime did this for several reasons, from wanting to increase turnout at the elections and the anniversary parades in February to wanting to continue business as normal to want to seem like they can control this pandemic.
