Former Revolutionary Guards chief hails Mousavi’s “retreat”

ImageTehran, Jan. 02 – In a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, former presidential candidate Mohsen Rezaei says Mir-Hossein Mousavi has now retreated from his previous stance towards the government of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, state television reported.
 
"Although he moved later than he should have, Mousavi has retreated from the position of denying the legitimacy of Mr. Ahmadinejad's government," Rezaei said in a Friday letter to the s Supreme Leader.
 
Rezaei who has throughout the 30-year reign of this regime held senior positions within the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps condemned the anti-government protests by Iranian people on the Shiite festival of Ashura as a "desecration of Ashura by anti-establishment protestors."
 
Rezaei’s letter came following a statement issued by Mousavi on Friday. Mousavi’s statement was his first since the recent unrest.
