PARIS – The main Iranian opposition group, in exile and based in France, yesterday condemned the European Union’s “betrayal” for negotiations with Tehran on its nuclear program.

“Negotiating with the mullahs’ regime constitutes a betrayal,” Mohammed Mohaddessin, an official of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, said at a press conference. He accused Tehran of human rights violations.

The NCRI screened what it said was never-before-seen videotape footage of public hangings in western Iran, in which one of the victims accuses the Islamic republic before his execution of “plotting to kill” him.

Based in a northern Paris suburb, the NCRI is the political face of the People’s Mojahedin of Iran, which is considered a terrorist group by the United States and the European Union. The NCRI rejects the label.
