Tehran, Sep. 18 – The Iranian regime hanged a young man in the city of Dezful (southwest Iran) yesterday. At the same time, two other prisoners were sentenced to death.

The regime has stepped up executions in recent days as schools and universities commenced. On Sep. 8, seven prisoners were hanged in Tehran and Karaj.

Yesterday the head of the public relations office of prisons in Hamedan province (western Iran) announced that the local Department of Justice had amputated the fingers of a burglar.

The man had allegedly stolen from 15 different stores. The sentence was carried out near the central Hamedan prison in the presence of Justice Department officials, the security personnel and the Revolutionary Guards.

Iranian media have reported the arrest of 283 people for ‘taking part in parties.’ On Sep. 8, thirty-eight people were detained during a raid on a party in the town of Golsar, northern Iran.

Last week, the Iranian judiciary ordered the closure of eight different dailies and weeklies, including those published in Amir Kabir and Gilan universities. Abol-Hassan Davoudi, the director of the Cinematography Center of Iran was also arrested last week along with two employees. He was transferred to Tehran Clinic Hospital following the deterioration of his health after his arrest.
