Tehran, Iran, Nov. 28 – Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei told visiting Iraqi President Jalal Talabani on Tuesday that peace and security would only be restored in Iraq once the United States withdraws its troops.

“The main root of Iraq’s current state is the United States’ policies which are being carried out through intermediaries”, Khamenei said. “Definitely, the U.S. will not be successful in Iraq. The continued occupation of Iraq is not a mouthful the U.S. can swallow”.

His comments were reported on state television.

“Upon the request of the Iraqi government, Iran will not refrain from any actions to help bring about stability and security in Iraq”, he said.

“The first step to resolve the issue of insecurity in Iraq is the withdrawal of the occupiers from this country and the handing of the security issue to the Iraqi people’s government”, he added.

Talabani arrived in Tehran on Monday for a three-day visit.
