Iran Focus: London, Mar. 25 – The European Union issued a statement on Saturday demanding the release of 15 Britons seized in the Persian Gulf by Iranian Revolutionary Guards. The following is the text of the statement which was released by Germany which currently holds the 27-nation bloc’s rotating Presidency:

EU Presidency Statement on the detention of British seamen by Iran

The Presidency of the Council of the European Union calls upon the Iranian Government to immediately release the 15 British seamen detained yesterday. It is consulting closely in this matter with the Government of the United Kingdom. The German Ambassador in Tehran has made a demarche vis-à-vis the Iranian Government in the same vein.
