Tehran, Iran, Apr. 26 – Iran will launch missile attacks on Israel and U.S. interests around the world if its nuclear installations came under aerial attack, a senior Iranian official said.

“No place is safe for America since we have long-range missiles. Iran is capable of firing tens of thousands of missiles against U.S. interests on a daily basis. With its long-range missiles, Iran can also threaten Israel which backs the U.S.”, Deputy Interior Minister Mohammad-Baqer Zolqadr said late Wednesday. His remarks were reported on Thursday by the official news agency IRNA.

“For this reason, the U.S. is employing a policy of soft threats [against Iran”> by sowing discord inside the country”, Brigadier General Zolqadr said.

Zolqadr, who was once the deputy commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), is currently Iran’s Deputy Interior Minister with overall responsibility for internal security.

He is a protégé and trusted confidant of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and has had a key role in the country’s security apparatus for years. He is also a staunch ally of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Since Ahmadinejad became President, hundreds of senior officers of the IRGC have been seconded to government ministries and state institutions to “prop up” the country’s civil administration as the Islamic Republic continues to defy the international community over its suspected nuclear weapons program.
