Two people have been killed and several wounded when a car blast in the western Iranian city of Ilam, reports say.

The cause of the explosion is not known. An official said the car was not gas-powered – a type which has suffered a number of accidental blasts recently.

Ilam, 700km (450 Miles) south-west of Tehran, near the Iraqi border, has a predominantly Kurdish population.

Correspondents say it is usually calm, but a week ago prisoners used grenades to blast their way out of a jail.
