Tehran, Jun. 20 – At 14.30 local time on Sunday, police and plain-clothes agents clashed with about 500 people who were chanting “death to the dictator” outside Polytechnic (Amir Kabir) University in central Tehran.

Protesters also chanted “Our Neda has not died, it is the Velayat which is dead”, in reference to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Neda, a 26-year-old student, whose fatal shooting by security forces during a peaceful rally in Tehran on 20 June 2009 was captured on film and shocked the world, became a symbol of the opposition movement.

Elsewhere, there was heavy police presence in Haft-e Tir, Vali Asr, Enqelab and Azadi squares.

At 14.00 several hundred opposition supporters gathered outside Honar (Arts) University on Mossadeq Street, chanting “Death to Khamenei”, “Khamenei shame on you, let go of our country” and “I am an Iranian; I will not submit to humiliation”.

At least two protesters were wounded in clashes with police.
