During a visit to Tunisia on Thursday, Erdogan said: “I plan visiting Iran in the near future”. His remarks were carried Friday by the official Iranian state news agency IRNA.

“Soon I will send Hakan [Fidan, undersecretary of the National Intelligence Organization (MİT)] to Tehran to hold meetings with Iranian officials”, he added.

Erdogan did not state when his visit to Iran would take place, but said he would try to meet up with Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the sidelines of the upcoming UN General Assembly meeting in New York.
