Iran’s Survival Strategy Is Failing – Analysts

Hassan Rouhani

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani pointed in a speech on 16 October to issues which indicate that Tehran is failing with his agenda of expansion of ‘global terror’ and the ‘export of the revolution’ in the Middle East, analysts say.

The failing of the 41-year strategy of Iran while the government tried to compensate it with the increase of repression, executions and terror was visible while Rouhani said: “For 41 years now we didn’t get any concrete answer in this country.”

Iran watchers say what Rouhani tried here to say was that no one of the government factions could stabilize the power in the country. And as a result, it is clear that the two main bases that this government is using since the grounding of the ‘regime’ – repression and terror – are like a ‘noose around the neck’ of this government which is constantly tightening, one analyst who wished to remain anonymous told Iran Focus.

In foreign policy, Iran’s government is constantly faced with hurdles in front of the spread of terrorism, bombings, and missile attacks. There is no way for the Iranian government to join the international community while it continues its malign activities, and it is stuck with no solution.

Rouhani said: “Some people call for constructive interaction. Some also call for the status quo and continuing confrontation.”

The combination of these internal and global matters reflects the Iranian government’s situation which is the crisis of existence, so Rouhani has been forced to confess: “Even on strategic matters, we have discussed for a long time, but without any result. And if we didn’t reach [any result] we should go for a referendum. Asking people. That’s the way.”

Rouhani’s speech also shows that no one cares anymore about the role of the supreme leader Ali Khamenei, the analyst said. While the supreme leader tried to show a strong vision of his dynasty, even the President is confronting him, while he continued and said: “There is no fight about the 2015 nuclear agreement (JCPOA). The fight is about a bigger thing.”

Previously, Rouhani claimed US sanctions would not force his government to back down. He said: “The sanctions have not and will not affect us. We will solve our problems with the world in the ways we know ourselves.”

Current events indicate otherwise. In his new remarks, Rouhani said: “Growth and development without relation with the world, without interaction with the world, with the banks being blocked, with imports being blocked, you should ask will we develop? No, you will not be developed.”

In the eyes of Iran watchers, the Iranian government has wasted for 41 years the resources of the country, a country that is one of the richest in the world. And it has made the people poorer day by day as it spends the money on global terror and warmongering.
