Tehran, Iran, Aug. 24 Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has decided to appoint a lay member of the ultra-conservative Guardian Council to the post of government spokesman, a website close to the Islamist camp reported on Wednesday.
Mohsen Esmaeili is expected to be given a formal decree by Ahmadinejad in the coming days, the website Farda wrote.
The 12-man Guardian Council is made up of six Shiite clerics and six lay legal experts. It has veto power over all legislation and rigorously vets candidates in all national elections.
