Tehran, Iran, Oct. 17 – Several hundred glass workers demonstrated outside their factory in Yaft-Abad, south of Tehran, as well as in front of the local Prosecutor’s Office on Sunday.

The workers, many of them laid off by the Miral Glass Plant, protested the non-payment of their salaries.

147 workers gathered outside the glass factory and, while chanting slogans, demanded their employers pay seven months of overdue salaries.

The workers have been on strike since last Tuesday. Last Monday, they gathered outside the office of hard-line Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, where they complained that there had been no government pressure on their employers to pay them.

In July, the workers blocked off the main route between Tehran and Saveh during a protest. They also held several other similar demonstrations outside the factory and the governorate.

Another 250 workers, who have since been laid off by the employers, demonstrated on Sunday outside the Yaft-Abad Prosecutor’s Office.

They have demanded that their former employers sell some of the factory’s land in order to pay their overdue salaries.
