Tehran, Iran, Dec. 07 – Clashes erupted between angry people and State Security Forces (SSF) in Tehran’s densely-populated Yaft-Abad district where a military transport plane crashed into a 10-story apartment block on Tuesday leaving all 94 passengers aboard and at least 25 people in the building dead and several dozen injured, a local resident told Iran Focus in an email interview.

The SSF, Iran’s para-military police, attacked many irritated locals who vented their anger on Tehran Mayor Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf who came to the site of the crash, the resident who did not want to give his name said.

Anti-government chants grew from the angry crowd as news spread that the aircraft which smashed into the residential district was a military plane.

Many of the protesters were beaten with truncheons, though it was not clear whether there had been any arrests.

Several reporters who were trying to film and take photographs of the crash site and the devastated local people were also roughed up by agents of the SSF.
