18-metre-long petition in protest to water policy
Khorassan – Local residents of the Iranian province of Khorassan signed a petition eventually stretching 18 metres long protesting plans to divert water from the Karoon river to Dasht Rafsanjan. The petition stated that the people of Khorassan do not have sufficient water, and that the diversion would bring further difficulties.

Tehran University students call for end to suppression
Tehran – Students of the Social Sciences department of Alameh Tabatabai University yesterday staged a demonstration outside the university’s main campus complaining of increased social restrictions in their boarding houses. Students said that the university was the scene of more and more suppression.

Three sentenced to execution
Death sentences have been issued for a man and a woman in the Iranian capital of Tehran. A third young man was also sentenced to execution in the town of Qazvin (100 kilometres west of Tehran). The woman by the name of Elaheh was accused of killing her infant child while the two unidentified young men were both accused of murder.

1,660 youths commit suicide every year
A recent report released by the Iranian regime’s department of statistics states that on average the number of youths that successfully commit suicide every year is 1,660. The same report also stated that youth and children between the ages of 15 and 24 commit the most number of suicides compared to other age groups.
On Wednesday a 26-year-old female diplomacy student committed suicide by jumping off a bridge in the suburbs of the Iranian capital of Tehran. Iran has the highest suicide rate in the world.
