Tehran, Iran, Jun. 01 – Iran condemned on Thursday the recent deaths of a handful of Afghan civilians by United States forces.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi hinted that the deaths were intentional, describing the U.S. action as “abhorrent”. The government-owned news agency Mehr carried his comments.

Riots broke out in Kabul on Monday after an American military truck killed five Afghans. A further 20 Afghans were killed in the riots.

“At a time when American forces and other foreign forces that are present in Afghanistan are responsible for the lives and security of Afghan people, we are unfortunately witnessing mischievous actions and games being played with the rights of ordinary Afghan people to live”, Asefi said.

“Silence by the United Nations and the High Commissioner for Human Rights and other human rights organs regarding the crimes of the American forces in Afghanistan and Iraq goes against the primary foundations of human rights and is unacceptable”, he added.
