Tehran, Iran, Jun. 29 – A strong earthquake shook the Iranian island of Qeshm and parts of the mainland on the southern coast in the early hours of Thursday.

The epicentre of the quake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale was Qeshm Island and the port city of Bandar-Abbass, with state television reporting minor injuries to nine people but no major damage on the island.

The quake struck at 12:32 a.m. according to Tehran University’s Geophysics Institute.
