The figures show that in the past year alone some 320,000 workers were sacked on the basis of the existing laws, Mohammad Jahromi said during a visit to East Azerbaijan Province. His remarks were reported by the state-run news agency Fars on Thursday.
Hard-line Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad appointed Jahromi as Minister of Labour and Social Affairs in 2005.
Jahromi was previously the deputy chairman for executive affairs of the ultra-conservative Guardians Council and a member of the secretariat of the State Expediency Council.
Following the 1979 Islamic revolution, he was a founding member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in Gilan and Mazandaran provinces.
He later became the governor of Zanjan, Lorestan and Semnan provinces.
