Tehran, Iran, Sep. 03 – Iran’s air force has begun a series of military manoeuvres in the north-western province of East Azerbaijan, state television reported.

The war-games, code-named “Blow of Zolfaqar”, have in recent weeks involved the regular army and navy.

The report said that Iranian fighter planes and bombers successfully struck their designated targets.

During the drills, Iran’s air defence systems also successfully targeted and destroyed “enemy planes” in radar-blackout areas in Iranian airspace, it said.

Iran’s Sa’eqeh fighter jets successfully attacked enemy targets, the report said, adding that an assortment of domestically produced or optimised missiles were successfully test-fired.

Iran has a dual military system with a regular armed forces as well as the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps. Both have their own army, navy, and air force and report directly to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
