Tehran, Iran, Sep. 10 – Iran condemned on Sunday the decision by the United States to blacklist a major Iranian bank.

“Apparently, abnormal measures are routine for the U.S. and it thinks that this will influence our policy-making”, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi told reporters during his weekly press conference.

“This is a childish action by the United States. They have shown that they will use any incorrect tool in order to reach their goals”, Asefi said, adding that the new measures would have no effect.

The U.S. Treasury Department announced on Friday that it had blacklisted Iran’s Bank Saderat because of its “support for terrorism”.

“Bank Saderat facilitates Iran’s transfer of hundreds of millions of dollars to Hezbollah and other terrorist organisations each year. We will no longer allow a bank like Saderat to do business in the American financial system, even indirectly”, said Stuart Levey, Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence (TFI).

Bank Saderat is one of the largest Iranian-owned banks, with roughly 3400 branch offices.
