AFP: A percussion bomb exploded Friday night in Ahvaz, the capital of Iran’s Khuzestan province, but caused no casualties, state news agency IRNA reported Saturday. TEHRAN, Nov 11, 2006 (AFP) – A percussion bomb exploded Friday night in Ahvaz, the capital of Iran’s Khuzestan province, but caused no casualties, state news agency IRNA reported Saturday.

“The explosion of a rather strong noise bomb in the Kianpars neighbourhood in Ahvaz frightened residents and drew them into the street,” IRNA said.

“Fortunately, nobody was injured and only the window panes of a six-storey and a two-storey building were shattered,” Ahvaz Governor Abdolaziz Fatami told IRNA.

He added that the authorities were investigating the incident.

Ahvaz is in southwestern Iran and is home to a large community of ethnic minority Arabs. It has been plagued by a wave of unrest over the past year. Bombings in October and January 2005 killed 14 people and injured another 150.

Government officials put the blame on Britain and its troops based just across the border in southern Iraq. London has denied the allegations.
