AFP: The White House on Friday flatly dismissed what it called a “rumor and urban legend” that the United States was gearing up for military action against Iran or Syria. WASHINGTON, Jan 12, 2007 (AFP) – The White House on Friday flatly dismissed what it called a “rumor and urban legend” that the United States was gearing up for military action against Iran or Syria.

“I want to address kind of a rumor, an urban legend that’s going around,” spokesman Tony Snow told reporters in a prepared statement at his daily briefing.

“It comes from language in the president’s Wednesday night address to the nation that, in talking about Iran and Syria, that he was trying to prepare the way for war with either country and there were war preparations underway.

“There are not,” said Snow.
