Tehran, Iran, Mar. 20 – Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki arrived in Cape Town on Tuesday where he will meet and hold talks with South African President Thabo Mbeki, the official news agency IRNA reported.

The report said that the meeting would likely focus on the international standoff over Tehran’s nuclear program and recent events in the Persian Gulf region.

Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani was in Pretoria in February where he held talks with President Mbeki on issues of Iran-South Africa bilateral interest.

The United Nations Security Council voted unanimously in December to impose sanctions on Tehran for its nuclear defiance. It gave Tehran two months to suspend uranium enrichment and return to the negotiating table.

South Africa currently holds the Security Council’s rotating presidency.
