Tehran, Iran, Apr. 10 – The head of Iran’s central bank has travelled to Washington, DC to attend the annual joint summit of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, the official news agency IRNA reported on Monday.

The IMF and the World Bank are to hold their annual meeting on April14-15 in the U.S. capital.

Ebrahim Sheibani is scheduled to deliver a speech on the state of Iran’s banking system at the meeting. He will also hold talks with the heads of numerous other states’ central banks, the report added.

Sheibani recently wrote to the heads of more than 50 central banks and international monetary institutions, defending the activities of Iran’s Bank Sepah which has been under UN Security Council sanctions since March for fears that it had ties to Iran’s missile and nuclear weapons programs.
