London, Apr. 12 – Bulgaria on Thursday imposed sanctions on Iran in line with a resolution by the United Nations Security Council ordering a partial economic and arms embargo against the Islamic Republic over its sensitive nuclear work.

Sanctions were imposed as an “answer” to Teheran’s refusal to stop enriching uranium, the Bulgarian news agency Sofia reported.

The report added that the Bulgarian government had decided that it should join the sanctions that the UN imposed on Iran in December.

UNSCR 1737 ordered all countries to ban the supply of specified materials and technology that could contribute to Iran’s nuclear and missile programs. It also imposed an asset freeze on key companies and individuals involved in the programs.

In March, the Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 1747 imposing greater sanctions on Tehran.
