Tehran, Iran, Apr. 19 – Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki travelled to Venezuela, touching down at Caracas airport Wednesday afternoon (local time), the official news agency IRNA reported on Thursday.

Mottaki was received by Venezuelan Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Viegas and a number of top Foreign Ministry officials.

He is scheduled to meet Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nicholas Madero, and Parliament Speaker Sylvia Flores during his two day visit, the report said. They will hold talks on how to further expand Tehran-Caracas bilateral relations.

The Iranian Foreign Minister is accompanied by Hamid-Reza Haji-Baba’i, a hard-line member of the Majlis (Parliament).

Chavez, a stringent opponent of the U.S., has openly defended Tehran’s nuclear program.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad last visited Venezuela in January.
