Tehran, Jan. 14 – Some 1,459 guns have been confiscated over the past nine months in Kermanshah province (western Iran), according to the province’s chief of State Security Forces (SSF).

“The confiscated weapons along with those caught smuggling them have been apprehended and will be sentenced”, SSF Major Javad Hamed told Iran’s state-run news agency Wednesday.

“Coordinated efforts by the agents (of the SSF) and the Kermanshah’s judiciary have contributed to a mass roundup of illegal arms in polluted districts of the province”, he added.

Hamed also stated, “Over the past three years a total of 5,216 military and illegal hunting weapons had been found and confiscated from individuals”.

He added that to prevent the spread of armed clashes between the population and security forces, intelligence agents as well as members of the Bassij (Iran’s paramilitary forces) must report any information they receive on possible “instigators of violence against the state”.

He called for increased vigilance by agents of the SSF in cracking down on suspected rebels.
