Tehran, Iran, Oct. 23 – Iran’s Majlis (Parliament) Speaker congratulated the State Security Forces (SSF) for cracking down on “trouble-makers”, state television reported on Tuesday.

Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel stressed the need for “power and discipline” within the SSF.

He told a Majlis session that the activities of the SSF in “confronting thugs to establish social and moral security are to be applauded”.

Since April, the SSF have carried out their largest crackdown on youths in recent years.

Iranian officials often refer to millions of unemployed young men, who are largely beset by frustration and despair, as “trouble-makers” or “hooligans”.
