We will soon force others to accept a nuclear Iran: Larijani

Tehran, Iran, Nov. 26 – The Islamic Republic will soon force other nations to accept it as a nuclear power, Iran’s former chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani said on Monday.

“In the near future, we will force others to accept a nuclear Iran” Larijani was quoted as saying by the state-owned news agency Fars.

He made the remarks to a group of students at a Tehran university.

In a significant surprise turn of events in October, Larijani was replaced as secretary-general of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) by Saeed Jalili, a more hard-line figure and an ally of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Sources in Tehran said that Larijani was dismissed because he was in favour of showing some flexibility in talks with UN Security Council members and the UN nuclear watchdog.

Ultimately, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has the final say over the nuclear issue, and analysts say he would have had to personally authorise Larijani’s departure.
