Tehran, Iran, Feb. 21 – Iraq on Thursday opened a new consulate in the south-western Iranian province of Khuzestan, Iranian state media reported.

The inauguration of the new consulate in the Arab-dominated city of Ahwaz was attended by Iranian and Iraqi officials, the official news agency IRNA said.

Among those present was Iraq’s ambassador to Iran, Mohammad Majid al-Sheikh.

Iraq also has consulates in the cities of Mashhad, north-eastern Iran, and Kermanshah, western Iran.
