Baghdad, Apr. 10 – More than 30 armed agents dispatched from Iran were arrested in the eastern Iraqi province of Diyala, according to sources close to the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin.

Sources said that the 30 agents were mercenaries of the elite Qods (Jerusalem) Force branch of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps.

“In one incident six individuals, of which five were Iranian and the other was an Iraqi, were apprehended by the Iraqi National Guard at a checkpoint near Maqdadiya in Iraq’s Diyala province. Those arrested were carrying light arms and RPG rockets, which they intended to use in operations in Diyala”, the opposition source revealed.

“In a separate incident 25 mercenaries carrying out orders from Iran’s Fajr Garrison were upheld by Iraqi security forces. A report by runaway mercenaries from the same network sent to the Fajr Garrison, a copy of which was obtained by the Iranian Resistance, said, ‘Those who have been arrested had a hand in the assassination of the former Governor of Baghdad. Some of them have already confessed to a number of assassinations in Baghdad during their interrogations”, the source added.

Fajr Garrison, alongside Ramazan Garrison, near the city of Kermanshah in western Iran, has for long been an operational base of the Revolutionary Guards and its elite Qods (Jerusalem) Force.
