"The air defence systems' operational speed and range have been promoted thanks to the attempts made by our country's experts. We are witnessing a jump in this field compared to previous models", Brigadier General Ahmad Miqani was quoted as saying by the state-run Fars news agency.
"The air defence base started an extraordinary movement and change in the year 1388 (which ended on 20 March 2010) in line with its mission in an effort to enhance its combat preparedness, defence and capability", the Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defence Base added.
General Miqani further pointed to the fact that the air defence systems had developed in range and speed.
In November last year Iran’s military carried out various war games aimed at using these air defence systems to defend Iran's nuclear facilities against potential attack.
With Iran likely to face further sanctions over its nuclear defiance, Miqani's announcement will do little to silence whispers in the West that Iran has little desire to abide by UN Security Council resolutions requiring it to halt its nuclear activities.
