Tehran, Iran, Jul. 24 – Iran’s incumbent President Mohammad Khatami announced today that the Islamic Republic would no longer suspend nuclear-related activity at the Isfahan site (central Iran) and would recommence suspended works without delay.

In a meeting with Heikki Puurunen, the new Finnish ambassador to Tehran, Khatami said, “We will never forego our legal right to [uranium”> enrichment and we have stated on many occasions that our voluntary suspension would not be indefinite. We have shown our good faith many times and now it is time that our European friends to live up more to their sides of the agreement”.

The United States charges that Iran is pursuing a clandestine nuclear weapons program under the cover of civilian use. France, Germany and the United Kingdom have been negotiating with Iran since 2003 for it to put aside its nuclear ambitions, in particular its drive to enrich uranium which could be used to make nuclear bombs.

Referring to the agreement that Iran had reached with the EU-3 regarding the suspension of work at the Isfahan nuclear facility, Khatami said that Tehran had accepted given the EU two months to put forward a new deal. “This [suspension”> will no longer be renewed”.

“We hope that the European trio will take into account that Iran’s strategic decision in the realm of its nuclear activities has not and will not change and therefore will give bring forward logical proposals that will recognise Iran’s absolute right [to uranium enrichment”>”.
