Tehran, Iran, Sep. 09 – Iran’s former President proclaimed on Friday that Tehran would pursue its controversial nuclear program at all costs and would never back down despite widespread international concern over its nuclear ambitions.

Addressing worshippers during Tehran’s Friday prayers, Ayatollah Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said, “There is no doubt that none of the leaders of the country intend to abdicate the right [to nuclear technology”>”. Rafsanjani added that the Islamic Republic would stand firm until it secured “our rights and our historical prestige”.

“This dirty mole, this unjust pressure on governments will one day burst and its pus will spill on the bullying colonialists”, Rafsanjani, who heads Iran’s State Expediency Council, said.

He accused international organisations, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of being manipulated by “the great powers”.

“Colonialists are still seeing the world from the colonialist viewpoint of the past”, Rafsanjani said.

In August, (IAEA), the United Nations nuclear watchdog, criticised Iran for not being open about its nuclear activities and for recommencing the nuclear fuel cycle which it had undertaken to suspend while it was bargaining with three European powers to reach a solution to the nuclear conundrum.
