Tehran, Iran, Dec. 20 – Dozens of women sealed off a highway in southern Iran on Tuesday by setting fire to car tyres.

The women, all from the suburban Shahid Motehari district, set up a barricade with burning tyres on the ring road around the southern city of Kerman, halting traffic in both directions.

They were protesting against inadequate social services in their neighbourhood.

For nearly a decade houses in the area have been lacking functioning water pipes, electricity, gas, and telephone lines, according to the protestors.
