Tehran, Iran, Mar. 15 – Iran will not abide by likely demands from the United Nations Security Council to suspend its uranium enrichment activities, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi told reporters on Wednesday.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will not abandon its peaceful nuclear research”, Asefi said.

Asked by a reporter what action Tehran would take if the Security Council ordered it end its nuclear research, Asefi said, “Research is our inalienable right. No one can ask us to do such a thing. It is irreversible”.

He said that thus far Tehran’s nuclear file had been “reported” to the Security Council by the International Atomic Energy Agency, adding that if it was “referred” there then Iran would consider “other options”.

The 15-nation Security Council is deliberating Iran’s nuclear dossier to determine what action to take, after the IAEA reported that it had been unable to confirm that Iran’s nuclear activities were for peaceful purposes.
