London, May 05 – Iran’s hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Friday that the Islamic Republic planned to take its uranium enrichment activities to an “industrial scale”.

“Iran is eager to continue its path until the production of nuclear fuel for its reactors at in industrial scale in accordance with international regulations and under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency”, Ahmadinejad said.

The Iranian president made the remarks at the annual summit of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) in Baku.

He said that Tehran saw the “great achievement” of being able to enrich uranium as one that belonged to all the countries in the region and the “Islamic world”.

He once again rejected calls by the international community for Iran to suspend its nuclear activities.

“The bullying world powers’ baseless accusations will have no effect on the determination of the Iranian nation to move in the path of progress”, Ahmadinejad said.

Iran defied last month a call by the United Nations Security Council to suspend its uranium enrichment activities.

The IAEA has said that it cannot confirm whether Iran’s nuclear activities are peaceful in nature.
