Tehran, Iran, May 15 – Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki announced on Monday that Tehran would reject any proposal by the European Union aimed at breaking the international deadlock over its nuclear program which called on the Islamic Republic to suspend uranium enrichment activities.

“Any request for a suspension or pause [of enrichment”> is illogical and unacceptable and would undoubtedly be rejected”, Mottaki told the ambassadors of Britain and France and a top German envoy. His remarks were circulated in a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry.

“Any new European solution or proposal must be based upon realities and have a logical framework”, he said, adding that the EU had failed to carry out “confidence-building” measures.

He said that Tehran was ready to negotiate about any “constructive proposal” on the nuclear issue that upheld its “inalienable rights”.

“The recent achievements by the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding enrichment and nuclear know-how and technology are obvious and irreversible”, Mottaki added.

Iran has ignored demands by the International Atomic Energy Agency and the United Nations Security Council to freeze its uranium enrichment activities.
