Tehran, Iran, May 17 – Iran rejected on Wednesday a joint statement issued by the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council over its sensitive nuclear activities, the official news agency reported.

“The nuclear activities of the Islamic Republic of Iran are transparent and peaceful”, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi said, adding that no organisation could ignore Tehran’s “rights”.

The report said that Asefi was stunned at the statement which came at the end of the 16th annual summit of EU and GCC.

Asefi used the opportunity to issue a warning to the EU not to comment on the dispute between Iran and the United Arab Emirates over the three islands of Lesser Tunbs, Greater Tunbs and Abu Musa.

“There is no doubt the three islands belong to Iran”, he said.
