Tehran, Iran, Sep. 05 – Iran and Kuwait are at loggerheads for appointment to the post of secretary general of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

Recently, Iran’s Oil Minister Kazem Vaziri-Hamaneh announced that Tehran had a right to become the oil cartel’s secretary general.

Iran ranks second in oil production among the OPEC states, accounting for some 80 percent of the country’s export revenues.

OPEC representatives will be meeting on September 11 in Vienna and one of the topics of discussion will likely be the standoff over the group’s top post.
