Tehran, Iran, Oct. 10 – Iran’s Supreme Leader vowed on Tuesday that the Islamic Republic would not retreat in its nuclear standoff with the West, a day after North Korea announced it had successfully carried out a nuclear test.

“Our policy is clear: advancement with clear logic and insisting on the nation’s right without retreating”, Ali Khamenei said during a meeting with Iran’s top officials including hard-line Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. His remarks were aired on state television.

Referring to Tehran’s decision two years ago to suspend uranium enrichment, Khamenei said, “If we did not experience that path, we might have blamed ourselves for not trying it. But today, we are moving ahead with courage and full control. No one can give an acceptable reason for why country’s nuclear path is incorrect. This is because we have experienced the other path”.

Addressing the meeting, Ahmadinejad said, “Iran’s proposal is an appropriate framework for cooperation on the nuclear issue. The Iranian nation will continue its glorious path with resistance and wisdom and without any fear”.
