We will not allow it to acquire material that goes to the development of nuclear weapons capabilitythat would be in breach of all its international obligations, Blair told lawmakers in Parliament. It is important that we take whatever action is necessary to stop that happening.
Blair said that Britain was working very closely with China, France, Russia, and the United States to ensure that Tehrans nuclear dossier is sent back to the United Nations Security Council and a proper, binding resolution is adopted on Iran.
The Security Council adopted Resolution 1696 on July 31 demanding that Tehran suspend all its uranium enrichment activities by August 31 or face the threat of sanctions. Tehran missed that deadline.
It is currently deliberating a tougher resolution which would impose mild sanctions against Tehran.
