Iran: Readout of Perm Five-Plus-One Political Directors’ Conference Call

Question: Can you give us a readout of the Perm Five-Plus-One (P5+1) call this morning?

Answer:
— As planned, the P5+1 Political Directors convened a conference call this morning to discuss elements of the next UN Security Council resolution in reaction to Iran’s continued defiance of the international system concerning their nuclear program. The call lasted two hours.

— They had a good productive discussion during which they made progress in agreeing on the elements of a resolution. A few more issues remain for discussion, and the Political Directors agreed to convene another conference call on Saturday morning.

— We expect that P5+1 UN Perm Reps could begin drafting the text of a resolution next week.
