Paris, Feb. 03 – Iran is developing “neutron initiators to trigger a chain reaction for a nuclear bomb rendering false the mullahs’ claims that they are only seeking a peaceful use of nuclear technology”, according to the main Iranian opposition group, the National Council of Resistance of Iran.

At a conference in Paris on Thursday Mohammad Mohaddessin, Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman of the NCRI, accused the Iranian regime of “producing Polonium-210, Beryllium and Neutron Generators”.

“They have concealed these activities from the IAEA. At present the Iranian regime is using two methods to acquire Beryllium. Iran has imported various compositions of Beryllium. It has not declared these imports to the IAEA, which only know about a few grams of the metal purchased from Great Britain. Last year, however, the clerical regime imported significant quantities of Beryllium from another foreign country but hid it from the IAEA. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps and the Defense Ministry have also attempted to produce this material domestically. Since four years ago, a project named “TAVA” has been initiated to discover strategic metals mines, including Beryllium” Mohaddessin added.

“Based on reports the NCRI has received, Tehran currently has enough Beryllium to produce initiators for at least a dozen nuclear bombs”, he said.

The foreign affairs committee chief also gave the names of at least a dozen officials within the regime responsible for running neutron initiator development programs, one of which was “Brigadier General Dr. Seyyed Ali Hosseini Tash, deputy Defense Minister, the official in charge producing weapons of mass destruction in the Ministry of Defense. He is, among other things, responsible for producing the neutron initiator for the nuclear bomb. The production of Beryllium and polonium 210 is being carried out under the supervision of Hosseini Tash. He has all the capabilities of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization at his disposal”.

Mohaddessin also gave the names and outlined the activities of several key agencies involved in Beryllium production including the IRGC Malek-Ashtar University (northeast Tehran) saying that “it has been working to produce Beryllium oxide for the past several years and obtained sufficient amount for laboratory testing. Experts at the University are now working on industrial manufacture of the metal”.

“Jaber Ibn Hayyan Laboratory is responsible for producing Beryllium oxide and converting enriched uranium into uranium rods”, he said.

Referring to what he called a “key front company”, Mohaddessin revealed information about San’at Gostar Majd Company which he said was set up to import Beryllium. “It is also supposed to act as a front to justify any possible revelations and inquiries by the IAEA about Beryllium production in Iran”, he added.

Mohaddessin stressed that Tehran was relentless in its efforts to acquire nuclear weapons. Europe’s policy of appeasement has granted valuable time to the regime for advancing critical stages in its quest for a nuclear bomb, he said.

To combat such threats posed by the Iranian regime, Mohaddessin referred to what Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the Iranian Resistance’s President-elect told the European Parliament last December. “The solution to the challenge posed by the Iranian regime, is neither appeasement nor a foreign war. The solution is democratic change by the Iranian people and Resistance because it is an Iranian solution”, he said.
