Reuters: Major powers have agreed to seek new sanctions against Iran over its disputed nuclear programme, but informal contact between the European Union and Iran will go on, Britain said on Wednesday.

LONDON (Reuters) – Major powers have agreed to seek new sanctions against Iran over its disputed nuclear programme, but informal contact between the European Union and Iran will go on, Britain said on Wednesday.

The six powers had agreed that "while informal contact between (EU foreign policy chief Javier) Solana and (Iran's chief nuclear negotiator Saeed) Jalili will continue, we have no choice but to pursue further sanctions against Iran," a spokesman for Britain's Foreign Office said.
