TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran's official news agency is quoting a government spokesman as saying the country is "ready to confront sanctions" over its disputed nuclear program.

The European Union on Friday tightened trade restrictions on Iran, and the West has threatened a fourth round of sanctions over Tehran's refusal to halt uranium enrichment.

That's a process that can either produce fuel for a nuclear reactor, or a weapon.

Sunday's report quotes government spokesman Gholam Hossein Elham as saying Iran's nuclear policies will not change, and that the country will manage "under any circumstances."

The West accuses Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons, but Tehran insists its nuclear program aims to generate electricity only.
